In the northeastern part of the prefecture of Chania lies Apokoronas, a diverse complex of villages.
The rich waters and rainfalls area favors the cultivation of land and livestock which is why the majority of the residents are farmers and livestock producers. This does not mean that the area lacks in tourist development, but on the contrary, has flourished in the recent decades – as has in most parts of the prefecture of Chania.
The natural landscape of Apokoronas is lush and one can enjoy the tours of scenic plateaus, wild mountains and the endless beaches of Georgioupolis. Another place worthy of a visit is the lake of Kournas, the only natural lake in Crete.
Overall the Apokoronas area is one of the most fertile areas of Crete with varied vegetation, the majestic White Mountains, with rivers, caves, endless monuments and unique beauty that is definitely worth visiting. The main thing is the quality of residents, pleasant – warm welcoming and they make you feel like at home.
